Strategic thinking and impact on Managing Tourism Crises: Survey study in the Tourism Board of Iraq
Abstract
This study aims to clarify the nature of relationship, analyze impact of strategic thinking, as an independent variable, on tourism crisis management, TSM as a dependent variable, within the Iraqi Tourism Authority community. The study variables encompassed several dimensions. The first variable included five sub-dimensions: strategic intention, (SI) time-based thinking, guided hypotheses, systems thinking, opportunity-based thinking. The second variable comprised five dimensions: detecting warning signs, preparedness and prevention, damage containment, recovery, and learning. The research problem centered on identifying the nature of relationship, the reciprocal influence between strategic thinking and tourism crisis management. It sought to answer main question concerning extent of strategic thinking’s (ST) impact on tourism crisis management. research was conducted field-based within the Iraqi Tourism Authority community, targeting a sample of senior leadership. Sixty-one (61) questionnaires were deemed valid for analysis, distributed among general managers, their deputies, department heads, division heads. The data was further supported by observations. IT, results showed a set of theoretical and applied conclusions that confirmed the validity of hypotheses, indicating existence of a significant impact of strategic thinking in managing tourism crises, both directly and indirectly.
